Our products can be used by people of all ages, but certain products will be most helpful to specific groups. For example, the Wellness Deck for Older Adults contains practices that can be beneficial to adults of all ages. However, the size, design, and content of the deck were created specifically for people age 60+.
Self-care is simply tending to your own needs, whether physical, mental, emotional or social. Taking care of yourself isn’t self-indulgent, but is actually a necessity for a healthy lifestyle. It helps you stay healthy and independent, and also enables you to extend your caring to others. By establishing healthy physical, mental and social routines, you’re improving your strength, energy reserves, and resilience.
We love books, but for the first time in human history, we have too much information at our disposal. This information overload can present a barrier to starting new routines and habits. Our card decks get you started right away with straightforward, actionable practices. Shuffle through the deck to quickly find the activities that fit your goals and needs.
Most of us depend on our smartphones all day long. Rather than add another app with an audible alarm to remind us to relax and do our mindfulness and breathing practices, we encourage you to use visual cues and habit stacking. Keep your selected exercise cards next to your sneakers; place the Mindful Eating card at the kitchen table; keep your Practice Your Posture card next to your computer. Use the Wellness Deck as an analog toolkit that directs you away from your phone for a time.
The creators set out to make a high-quality deck that is comprehensive yet simple to use. The practices are straightforward, timeless, and backed by research. Each card describes a specific activity with suggested parameters, rather than a general concept. This makes it easy to get started and gives your creativity a boost.
The attention to detail and use of participant feedback that went into the development of the cards is reflected in the content and design.
The Deck is like three decks in one: Body cards for physical strength, flexibility, posture, and healthy habits; MIND cards for breathwork, mindfulness, and activities to challenge your brain and replenish your spirit; and SOCIAL cards to encourage your connections with others and your selected communities. The Routines combine cards from the different realms to focus on goals like Stress reduction, better Sleep, improved Memory, and Fall Prevention.
The size of the cards (4” x 6”) and larger font make each card easy to read. The custom illustration on each card lets you know at a glance what the card is about and enhances the instructions on the back of each card.
Anyone who wants to feel better but doesn't know where to start. Physical, mental, emotional, and social health are all interconnected. Often addressing just one aspect doesn’t achieve whole body health and a sense of well-being.
The practices in the Wellness Deck for Older Adults can help you if you feel stressed, lonely, or have poor sleep quality; if you want to strengthen your muscles and improve your balance, flexibility and posture; and if you want to find purpose and connection with others. All that’s needed is a little time, effort, and bravery on your part.
You can use the Deck on your own, or with a group or accountability partner. First browse the Deck to get a feel for the practices. You’ll find cards that focus on physical strength and flexibility, mindfulness, breathwork, reflection, mental and spiritual growth, connection with others, finding purpose in life, and more.
Think about the areas in your life that need attention, then choose a handful of cards to focus on for the next week or two.Self reflection and trying new things can reveal to you what gives you satisfaction, stimulates your curiosity, and fills you with joy.
Build these activities into your daily life before it feels urgent. By incorporating new activities that you enjoy into your existing life routines, you can create sustainable habits. Small changes have the biggest impact because they fit into your life seamlessly.
Be consistent. Find the time of day that works best for you. Use gentle reminders, such as placing your morning routine cards on your nightstand, or exercise routine cards next to your sneakers. Don’t feel guilty if you miss some practices. Just keep going!
The Deck contains exercises in three categories: Body, Mind, and Social. These practices are just the beginning. We hope they stimulate your curiosity and sense of adventure, and you continue seeking more knowledge and new experiences on your own. You may develop new talents and interests and join new communities. The goal is to bring these new activities and habits into your daily life, and develop a lifestyle that sustains and excites you.
Our bodies are not made to spend so much time sitting. We end up with tight muscles and joints, changes in posture, and pain. To counteract all our sitting time, we need to get up and move, strengthen and stretch our muscles, and become more aware of our posture and how it affects our pain, mobility and balance.
